LIVE-ABOARD EXPEDITIONS
MV FRENCH POLYNESIA MASTER
Built in 2016, the French Polynesia Master has joined the Master Liveaboards’ fleet and has now become a fully fledged member. The building process was managed by the experienced yacht building team of Worldwide Dive and Sail, Jan & Frank van der Linde. Guests may choose between lower deck and upper deck cabins, each with en-suite and individual air conditioning units. Communal relaxation areas are split between the middle and upper decks; comprising a spacious indoor lounge area, camera set up station and guest storage drawers, with pillowed bench seating and a plasma screen. There is an extra shaded outdoor lounging area to the rear of the upper deck with more cozy seating. Finally, there is a sun deck on the upper level with comfortable lounge chairs from where you can unwind and soak up the stunning views of the French Polynesian islands.
Dive equipment is set up and stored at the rear of the main deck in a dedicated shaded outdoor area. All guests are allocated an individual set up station, with under bench storage for masks, fins and other personal items. A camera table can be used to store prepared equipment ahead of the dive, with dedicated rinsing tanks provided. Divers can make use of the shower hoses on deck or rinse off between dives with the port side deck heads.
LAND-BASED EXPEDITIONS
WHALE WATCHING
Every year over the same time period, humpback whales come to French Polynesia from Antarctica. The first few are sighted in June and the last ones depart our islands in early December. The peak season is between mid-August and the end of October. Encounters during this period are very frequent.
Breeding females come to deliver their calves in the warm waters of Tahiti and the other adults come to find a mate while being sheltered from their natural off shore predators.
This actitivy should involve a professionally trained guide who will have the skills to determine the whales’ activity phases (such as socializing, resting or moving). Boats or tenders should always slow down when they get close to the animals and never turn the engine off.
The guide will adopt a proper behaviour so that the animals are respected and not bothered. Whale and dolphin watching is strictly regulated by law in the Islands of Tahiti since the area has been designated as a sanctuary for marine mammals since 2002.
Tahiti Private Expeditions holds an operator's government license and has worked over the past decade with a couple of marine biologists who specialize in cetacean research in French Polynesia and the team has acquired tremendous experience in this field. If weather conditions allow, and the whales encountered are in a resting phase, snorkeling with them can be arranged. For reckless and keen divers, rebreather diving may be the perfect way to dive with them as scuba diving is prohibited.
TAHITI PRIVATE EXPEDITIONS
COCNUT NUI
Tahiti Private Expeditions has a new semi-inflatable 25ft tender, perfectly suited to explore the Islands of Tahiti, diving and snorkeling but also whale watching.
Very well equipped with full bimini, the tender can also be towed with an extremely strong custom-made towing eye on the bow.
The boat has already cruised the Society Islands and Tuamotu atolls. It is the perfect tool to replace a yacht's tender or have an additional exploration platform. Featuring an OPTIMAX 250 HP engine, you can cruise fully loaded, fast with a low fuel consumption ready for adventure.
The boat is licensed to encounter beautiful humpback whales during the season, being equipped with a high quality hydrophone to catch and record whale songs as far as 10 kilometers away.
